A supposedly 120-year-old Gottfried Lindauer painting of Tainui chief Kewene Te Haho that Trust Waikato bought in 2001 for $121,000 has found to be a fake. The Trust asked Victoria University School of Art History, Classics and Religious Studies lecturer Roger Blackley for his assessment, and the Auckland Art Gallery conducted forensic tests.
