2:10 The Beluga Whale -  researcher Sam Ridgway of the National Marine Mammal Foundation in San Diego.
Scientists believe a Beluga whale is trying to make sounds as close to the human voice as possible to communicate with us.
The whale, called NOC, was recorded by marine scientists at the National Mammal Foundation in San Diego, California.
The recording is one of 20 or so made by the scientists during the 30 years they studied NOC …the recordings are now attracting worldwide media attention.

So the pair of them set about the task - but it took a lot longer and a lot more money than they thought…
And there's been substantial hurdles - including major health problems - for Max to overcome..hurdles  which might have stopped a man of lesser determination.
But Max, who's 60,  is about to release his dream with the boat due to be launched in Tauranga within the next month.
