One hundred and seventy army reserve soldiers marched through central Auckland on Saturday morning as part of a military ceremony.

At a ceremony in Aotea Square the mayor, Len Brown, presented the third Auckland and Northland Battalion with a new charter.

The soldiers then marched down Queen St in full dress uniform carrying weapons with bayonets fixed, drums beating, colours flying and swords drawn.

Many of them have served in Bosnia, East Timor, Solomons, Afghanistan, Korea and the Middle East.
