A 45-year-old man is in a critical condition in Wellington Hospital following a kitesurfing accident near Porirua.
The man is reported to have been lifted out of the water by a strong gust of wind near the Mana Esplanade about 3.30pm.
He slammed into a car and was taken by the LifeFlight helicopter to hospital.
