The former Black Caps allrounder Chris Cairns has been suspended by his Indian Cricket League Twenty20 team.
The South African all-rounder Andrew Hall will take over from Cairns as captain of the Chandigargh Lions.
The ICL's website says it is wating for more details about why Cairns and a teammate Dinesh Mongia have been suspended.
The ICL rivals the officially sanctioned Indian Premier League and other New Zealand recruits incude Shane Bond, Lou Vincent, Andre Adams, Nathan Astle, Craig McMillan, Hamish Marshall and Daryl Tuffey.
