Two New Zealand-born backs have been named in the Wallabies rugby team to take on Scotland in Newcastle on Tuesday.

The Queensland Reds' Mike Harris will start at second five and the Melbourne Rebel's Joe Tomane will start on the wing.

There are three other debutants in Reds fullback Luke Morahan, New South Wales Waratahs flanker Dave Dennis and ACT Brumbies prop Dan Palmer.

Zimbabwean-born David Pocock will captain the side with regular skipper James Horwill injured.

The selectors opted to go with the Waratahs' Berrick Barnes at five-eighth ahead of Quade Cooper, who has played just 120 minutes since returning from knee surgery.
