West Coast land owners are being coached on how to safely clear some of the thousands of trees brought down by last week's severe gales.
Winds of up to 130 kilometres an hour damaged indigenous and plantation forests, as well as the wider agriculture sector, from Karamea to Haast.
The Associate Primary Industries Minister, Jo Goodhew, is in the area to see the damage and speak with affected communities.
She says the ministry, along with the West Coast Rural Support Trust, is holding information sessions on tree safety.
And people will learn about safe handling of windblown trees, and get tips on chainsaw and machinery use.
The Insurance Council of New Zealand is still assessing the damage.
