Labour is calling for a review of public sector pay, saying the rise in executives' salaries are out of control.
The number of public servants now earning more than $100,000 was rising, as are the salaries of the highest paid public servant chief executives.
The head of the Guardian of New Zealand Superannuation Adrian Orr was the highest paid, earning more than $800,000 - boosted by a $130,000 pay rise.
While State Services Commission chief Iain Rennie's pay increased $50,000, to $620,000, in the year ended June 2014.
Labour's state services spokesman, Kris Faafoi, questioned whether the pay levels and increases for executives, when compared with frontline workers.
"Some have gone up by 19 percent but roughly about 10 percent of those across the board, while those who are working in the core public sector have got about a one percent increase.
"I've got an issue with the relativity of what the bosses are earning and what those on the frontline are earning.''
