The man who was killed after lying on a road south of Auckland has been identified as local resident, Myron Strang.
The small community of Hunua, south of Auckland was left in shock after the 43-year-old died at the weekend on Hunua Road.
Police were still asking for any witnesses, and were looking for one woman in particular.
They said a man who was driving through the Hunua Gorge was waved down by a woman at about 4am on Sunday.
They said she was distressed and said she had been drinking before the driver dropped her off in Papakura.
Mr Strang's funeral will be on Saturday at a marae in Whakatane.
