The driver of a car which the police believe ran over a man lying on a rural road near Auckland has been speaking with officers investigating the case.
The man died at the scene, on Hunua Road.
The driver of the car alerted police to the incident, which occurred at around 4am today.
Sergeant Darryll Horn of Papakura Police said they would like to hear from anyone else who may have seen a man on Hunua Road between 3am and 4am, or seen something strange and not realised there was a person on the road.
Police said the dead man's name would be released once formal identification had taken place.
