The police are warning of serious delays in both directions on Main North Road, north of Christchurch, after a serious crash involving a motorcyclist.
St Johns Ambulance says a car reversed into the motorcyclist, who was then pinned against another car.
The motorcyclist has been taken to Christchurch Hospital in a serious condition.
Motorists are warned to avoid the area.
