Tonga youth seen as 'problematic' - Youth MP

From The House , 5:00 pm on 22 November 2019

Tonga youth are often seen as 'problematic' and national leaders need to give youth equal opportunities says 2018 Tonga Youth MP 'Aulola 'Ake.

'Ake joined Tonga's 2018 Youth Parliament as the Prime Minister and is now part of the steering committee for the 2019 Youth Parliament.

At a workshop with New Zealand MPs and the Youth MPs in Tonga, she told Daniela Maoate-Cox that youth are often seen as "having problems" or as "being problematic" and breaking that perception is a challenge.

This interview is part of coverage of the Speaker-led delegation to Tonga and Fiji in 2019. Full story here.
