Carole Beu, The Women's Bookshop, reviews Dominicana by Angie Cruz, published by Flatiron Books.

Short-listed for this year's prestigious Women's Prize for Fiction.

Ana is 15, obliged to marry a man in his 30s and to move with him to New York. Missing her family in the Dominican Republic, she makes the most of her life, growing in strength and independence.

Cruz beautifully captures the immigrant experience and makes you love this wonderful young woman.
