Canterbury has nearly three times the rate of new Covid-19 infections as Auckland but, so far, the main emergency department says it is coping well.
The number of new cases recorded in the region yesterday was almost the same as the whole of Auckland - meaning a much higher rate per capita.
The clinical director of Christchurch Hospital's emergency department Mark Gilbert told health correspondent Rowan Quinn they're very busy but are not seeing a big increase in the number of patients.
