Lack of foreign PhD students hurting research projects

University staff warn a lack of foreign PhD students is hurting major research projects.

They say most doctoral students need to be in New Zealand for laboratory and fieldwork but border restrictions prevent them from entering the country.

That's a problem because in a normal year half of New Zealand's ten-thousand doctoral candidates are from overseas.
