Limiting the number of international ports in New Zealand could minimise the risk of Covid-19 spread, according to a medical officer of health.
The Ministry of Health is reviewing measures in place at ports and for ship workers after an engineer tested positive for Covid-19 on Saturday.
It's believed he caught the virus by working on a ship.
Dr Phil Shoemack is Medical Officer of Health with Toi Te Ora Public Health in the Bay of Plenty.
He says limiting the number of international ports could be useful by reducing the number of port workers on ships, but there could be downsides.
