Trucking operator claims victory over NZTA

From Morning Report, 6:19 am on 24 February 2020

Northland's biggest trucking operator is claiming a triumph over the New Zealand Transport Agency and is accusing it of allowing a personal campaign to be waged against him.

The NZTA has dropped its legal action against Stan Semenoff Logging, after Semenoff, the former mayor of Whangarei, had electronic safety gear installed on his 50-plus-strong logging fleet.

It says the company also specifically acknowledged it failed to comply with its safety obligations.

But Semenoff says the fleet was safe all along, and told RNZ reporter Phil Pennington if that hadn't be the case, NZTA wouldn't be dropping its attempt to revoke his transport licence.
