Kiwibuild reset: 'devil is in the detail'

From Morning Report, 7:35 am on 5 September 2019

The Kiwibuild reset is promising to right the wrongs of the previously failed programme, but experts say the devil will be in the detail - which is yet to be seen.

The government has stripped Kiwibuild back to its bare bones, scrapping its 100,000 new homes target and putting hundreds of unsold properties in Wanaka, Canterbury and Te Kauwhata on the open market.

The money from those houses will be recycled back into the programme.

It's also investing $400 million in a progressive home ownership scheme, which could include a shared equity or rent to own scheme. Political reporter Charlie Dreaver has the details.
