US university leads way in solving ethnic disparities

An American university has been showing New Zealand institutions how to dramatically lift pass rates for under-performing groups like Maori and Pasifika students.

Georgia State University in Atlanta uses statistics about its students to target help to those who need it most and the Tertiary Education Commission wants universities and polytechnics here to do the same.

Tim Renick from Georgia State University in Atlanta told RNZ education correspondent, John Gerritsen, the approach has eliminated significant ethnic disparities in less than a decade.
