Peters heads to Turkey as Erdogan threatens over mosque attacks

From Morning Report, 7:44 am on 20 March 2019

Foreign Minister Winston Peters is on his way to Turkey to talk to the government about incendiary comments made by the President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Mr Erdogan had described the shooting in Christchurch as part of a wider attack on Turkey and threatened he would send home "in caskets" anyone who attempted a similar attack in his country. The president also attracted criticism over the weekend for repeatedly screening footage of the shooting at election rallies in an effort to galvanise support from his conservative base. Guyon Espiner speaks to Professor of Politics and International Relations at the University of Otago, Robert Patman, about Mr Erdogan's comments.
