Winston Peters 'lacks credibility' on Russia - National

From Morning Report, 6:44 am on 14 March 2018

The National Party says the Foreign Minister Winston Peters' condemnation of a nerve agent attack in Britain lacks credibility given his recent remarks about Russia. The British government says it's highly likely Moscow was to blame for the poisoning of former spy Sergei Skripal. Mr Peters turned down our request for an interview, but issued a statement last night expressing grave concerns. But National's foreign affairs spokesperson, Todd McClay, says it's hard to take Mr Peters seriously after he told a television interviewer at the weekend he still wants New Zealand to pursue a free trade agreement with Russia. Mr Peters also said Russian involvement with the shooting down of Malaysian Airlines flight MH17, and interfering with the American elections, had yet to be proven. Todd McClay spoke to RNZ political reporter Craig McCulloch.
