Onboard fishing boat cameras to be rolled out after delay

From Checkpoint, 6:19 pm on 4 September 2020

After a long delay the government has announced it will finally roll out onboard cameras to more inshore fishing vessels, but there are a few hooks.

The plan would see cameras fitted to 345 vessels, but the deadline is not until 2024.

But it would cover all inshore areas where fishing endangers protected species, at a cost of $40 to 60 million over four years.

The Minister of Fisheries, Stuart Nash talks to Lisa Owen.
