More than 80,000 people in 40 countries have now been infected since December but it is Italy which is now the focus.

At least 55,000 people in 11 towns in the North are now in quarantine and in the past 48 hours Austria, Croatia, Greece, Norway, Switzerland, Georgia and Macedonia have all reported their first cases of infection - mostly from recent travellers to Italy.
