AT THE MOVIES #896   IN THE END

Simon Morris wonders why so many movies at the moment can’t seem to end satisfactorily.  He checks out a nihilistic thriller, an alternative reality movie with too many twists and turns, and a star studded comedy-thriller that fails at the finish line.

Memory is a thriller about a hitman with early onset dementia.  Starring Liam Neeson and Guy Pearce, it’s directed by New Zealander Martin Campbell (Casino Royale).  Screening on Amazon Prime.

Don’t worry darling sees a 1950s couple in an idyllic California neighbourhood.  But is it all too good to be true?   Stars Florence Pugh (Black Widow), Harry Styles (Dunkirk) and Chris Pine (Star Trek).   Directed by Olivia Wilde (Booksmart).

And Amsterdam is a star-studded comedy thriller set in New York, between two World Wars.   Stars Christian Bale, Robert De Niro, Margot Robbie and many more, it’s based on a real life scandal.  Directed by David O Russell (Silver Linings Playbook).
