While the Marlborough Sounds has been forced to implement a ban on blue cod catches, stocks of Bluff oysters have bounced back to give the industry a bumper season. While the season doesn't end until August, the 7.5 million quota has nearly been reached, with only one of the 11 oyster boats still fishing.

That's got some industry players suggesting the time is right to reduce the voluntary quota reduction that was implemented to allow oyster beds to recover after the devastating outbreak of the parastie of bonamia eight years ago.
