One of the Pacific's most ambitious canoe building projects is underway in Fiji and it wants to have 100 vessels built by Christmas.
The project run by the Uto ni Yalo Trust aims to revive traditional boat building techniques, help communities move off diesel, promote sustainable fishing and improve livelihoods through eco-tourism.
The trust's Dwain Qalovaki told Sally Round volunteers have come from around the country to build, maintain and learn how to sail the vessels.
He says the canoes will later be given to remote communities.
