Somali cabinet ministers among bomb dead

At least 19 people, including three government ministers, have been killed in a suicide bomb attack in Somalia's capital, Mogadishu.

Officials say a man dressed in women's clothing infiltrated a university graduation ceremony at a hotel in the city and set off the bomb.

Among the dead were the ministers for education, higher education, and health, the BBC reports. Five government ministers were reported to have been in the hotel at the time.

Most of the dead were students. At least two journalists attending the ceremony were killed.

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has denounced the attack, but said it would only strengthen the determination of the Somali government and people to persist in their efforts to fight terrorism.

The UN-backed government of President Sheikh Sharif Ahmed controls little more than a few streets of the capital.
