A private investigator in Britain has told the BBC that he was paid by the News of the

World newspaper to follow more than 100 people, including the second in

line to the British throne, Prince William.

The investigator, Derek Webb, is a former policeman who had been trained in covert surveillance.

He says he worked for the newspaper for eight years until it was shut down in July, when it became embroiled in a phone-hacking scandal, the BBC reports.
