A director of news for Channel Nine in Brisbane has resigned and two reporters and a producer have been sacked for faking 'live' crosses in news items broadcast last week.
On separate days, two reporters filed fake reports from the station's helicopter, saying they were near the site of the search for the remains of Daniel Morecombe, 13, of Queensland who was murdered in December 2003.
A rival network filmed the helicopter still on the helipad at the same time one of the crosses was broadcast.
The ABC reports Channel Nine has admitted the 'live' reports were faked.
