Some 40 prisoners have been taken to hospital following a riot and fire at a jail in California.
The Los Angeles Times newspaper reported that the riot broke out on Saturday in a housing unit at the California Institute for Men in the town of Chino, east of Los Angeles. It began at about 8.20pm local time (0320 GMT).
A prison spokesman told KTLA-TV that the situation was brought under control on Sunday morning. No prison officers were hurt.
He said some of the prisoners' injuries were considered life threatening.
