Prime Minister Raila Odinga of Kenya has ordered an investigation into a stampede at a football match in Nairobi in which at least seven people died.

He said both the police and the football authorities would be involved in investigating the cause of the tragedy at the Nyayo national stadium.

The crush occurred during the opening minutes of a Premier League match between two of Kenya's most popular teams, Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards, as latecomers struggled to enter.

At least 30 other people were hurt.

The match continued despite the deaths.

Another stampede at the same stadium killed a fan during a World Cup qualifying match between Kenya and Morocco in 2005.
