An Australian soldier has been killed during a Taliban rocket attack in Afghanistan.
In a statement, Air Chief Marshall Houston said several rockets were fired into a forward operating base in Oruzgan Province on Sunday evening (Australian time). "The soldier was killed instantly when a rocket exploded in the compound."
He was the eighth Australian soldier to die in Afghanistan since 2001. He had been previously deployed in East Timor and was a third of the way through his deployment.
Air Chief Marshal Houston said the situation in Afghanistan remained "very dangerous".
