The son of a former president and an assassinated opposition leader has been sworn in as the 15th President of the Philippines.
Benigno Aquino, who won a convincing election victory in May, has promised to stamp out corruption, improve the investment environment and try to resolve a long-running Muslim separatist insurgency.
Many in the crowd attending the inaguration were dressed in yellow, the colour of the People Power revolution that drove the dictator Ferdinand Marcos from office in 1986 and swept Benigno Aquino's mother Corazon to the presidency, which she held till 1992.
She died last year. Benigno Aquino's father, a leading opposition senator during the Marcos era, was assassinated as he returned to the Philippines from exile in 1983.
