Police in Victoria say another attack on an Indian taxi driver in Ballarat was not racially motivated. It was the second such incicdent in the city in two nights.

The driver, 25, suffered bruising and facial swelling when he was attacked by four teenage boys about midnight on Friday in the suburb of Sebastapol.

Another Indian cab driver was racially abused and assaulted the night before by a male passenger, 48. He was convicted on Friday and sentenced to three months in prison.

Detective Senior Constable Jeff Highthorn says taxi drivers are a soft target because they work alone.

He suspects the boys have committed similar offences in the past and says the attack was not racial.

The boys were passengers. The ABC reports they became abusive, spat on the driver and punched him before running away.
