No tsunami warning after Vanuatu quake

A magnitude 5.7 earthquake has struck off Vanuatu.

The earthquake hit early on Tuesday, about 227km north-northwest of Santo near the South Pacific nation, the US Geological Survey said.

It struck at a depth of 10 km (6 miles), the USGS said. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre did not issue a tsunami warning.

The USGS gave a preliminary estimate of the magnitude as 6.1.
