A 26-year-old man was surfing at Shelly Beach, near Port Macquarie, about 6pm on Thursday when he felt something hit his hand, the ABC reports.
He noticed cuts on his hand and blood on his leg but did not know he'd been bitten by a shark until he went to hospital. Police say he was treated for puncture wounds to his hand and a laceration to his leg.
On Saturday last week, 19-year-old Zac Young from Port McQuarrie was killed by a tiger shark while bodyboarding north of Coffs Harbour.
