Taiwan has conducted military exercises near the Philippines amid a row over the death of a Taiwanese fisherman last week in waters claimed by both countries.
The exercises in the Bashi channel are expected to last for two days and the BBC reports two frigates, a destroyer and coastguard vessels took part.
The fisherman was killed on 9 May when a Philippine coastguard vessel opened fire on his boat.
President Benigno Aquino issued an apology on Wednesday, but Taiwan said the apology was "unacceptable".
