The Maori Party leadership and executive have held talks with the National Party over a potential agreement in Parliament.
They say discussions with Prime Minister John Key and his deputy Bill English on Monday were constructive.
Maori Party co-vice president Ken Mair says they will follow a process before revealing the nature of their korero, or talks.
Mr Mair says the party will hold more discussions and, once it clarifies its direction, he says the caucus will then seek guidance from its supporters about how to proceed.
