New boss welcomed by Maori mobile phone director

A Maori director of the mobile phone company 2degrees is welcoming the appointment of a new chief executive.

The firm's chairman Stewart Sherriff will take over the leadership role, replacing Eric Hertz, who died in a plane crash at the end of March.

A director of 2degrees, Antony Royal, says Mr Sherriff is a good fit for the business.

He says Mr Sheriff has had a long history with 2degrees, having been on the board for a number of years and has been acting as chair of the board.

Mr Royal says Stewart Sherriff is a Scotsman - and there are many similarities between the Scots and the Maori.

A Maori-owned subsidiary - the Hautaki Trust - holds 10% of the shares in 2degrees on behalf of the trust and other Maori business interests.
