Ngati Kahungunu may ask Maori farmers not to send their livestock to the AFFCO meatworks in the northern Hawke's Bay town of Wairoa.
It is part of a planned strategy to help whanau affected by the lock out of 110 striking workers in a dispute over pay and conditions.
The iwi says it will also urge overseas buyers not to purchase any beef and lamb produced by AFFCO, which the company says is sought after by customers around the globe.
But the tribe's deputy chair Rill Meihana says its first priority is to help tangata whenua.
He says Ngati Kahungunu does not favour anyone, it is only coming in to help the needy.
Mr Meihana says he has had a meeting with the AFFCO manager, and told him he respects the company's position as well.
The iwi opened a support centre in Wairoa Monday for the community to drop off food and offer services to the locked out striking workers and their whanau.
