Daniel Bell and Gareth Kean qualify for world champs

Swimmers Daniel Bell and Gareth Kean qualified last night for the 100 metres backstroke at the world championships in Shanghai.

Kean had achieved the target time as fastest qualifier in the heats, but Bell dominated the final, with the better qualifying time of 54.40.

Kean, who's 19, says it's great they they spur each other on and don't have to travel overseas to get the competitiont they need to improve.

Kean and Bell are the fourth and fifth qualifiers for the world champs after the first two days of the Nationals in Auckland.
