A Peter Crouch goal 10 minutes from time has handed Tottenham Hotspur a 1-0 win over a below-par AC Milan in their European Football Champions League last-16 first leg match at the San Siro .

Spurs were the better side in the first half and the seven time winners Milan in the second.

The England striker Crouch netted slightly against the run of play after winger Aaron Lennon's swift break and pass.

The second leg's in London on March 9th.

But the Milan captain Gennaro Gattuso faces a lengthy suspension after he headbutted Tottenham assistant coach Joe Jordan moments after the final whistle leaving Tottenham head coach Harry Redknapp perplexed.

Meanwhile the 33-year-old striker Raul celebrated his return to Spain with a goal to give the German side Schalke 04 a 1-all draw after another ex-Real Madrid player, Roberto Soldado, scored for Valencia in the 17th minute.

Next month's second leg is in Gelsenkirchen.
