The New Zealand women's hockey team has beaten China 3-nil at the World Cup in Argentina, to finish seventh overall.

The Black Sticks scored twice in the first half, with goals to Kyrstal Forgesson and Charlotte Harrison, and never looked like giving up the lead to China.

Clarissa Eshuis scored off a penalty corner in the second half to seal the win for New Zealand.

It was a tough tournament for the Black Sticks, with one win against India and one draw against Japan their only successes during pool play.

Australia beat Korea 2-1 in the fifth and sixth play-off.
