Twenty five years on and Athletics New Zealand and Rod Dixon are still at loggerheads over his New York marathon success in 1983.
The 58-year-old Dixon will return to New York next week to celebrate the 25th anniversary of his success through the Five Boroughs, this time running the marathon with his daughter.
In their official records Athletics New Zealand mentions Dixon's time of 2:08:59, but describes the course as short.
Paul Ballinger's 2:10:15 in Fukuoka stands as the best time by a New Zealander instead.
However Dixon still claims the distance was correct and did send official evidence of it to Athletics New Zealand.
An Athletics New Zealand spokesman is intending to make contact with Dixon again regarding the time.
