Australia will go into next week's women's water polo World Cup defence in New Zealand as the in-form team, after beating world champions the US 10-8 in the final of the 10th Anniversary Tournament at Sydney Olympic Park.
The win recalled memories of the 2000 Olympic effort when Australia won the inaugural Games crown with a last-gasp victory over the Americans.
The US has gone on to win three world championships and five world league titles since while Australia can just claim the 2006 FINA World Cup.
