Australia thrash NZ at hockey champs

The New Zealand men's hockey team have been thrashed 9-1 by the champions Australia in their opening Champions Trophy match in Germany.

After winning the 2009 Champions Trophy and the 2010 World Cup, the Kookaburras have brought a young squad to the 2010 Champions Trophy in order to allow some younger players to gain experience ahead of the 2012 London Olympics.

However, the team looked far from inexperienced as they dismantled the world no.7 ranked Black Sticks in an impressive display, justifying Australia's No.1 world ranking and their favoritism at the 2010 Champions Trophy.

There were also wins to hosts Germany, 4-2 over England, and the Netherlands beat Spain 5-2.
