Arsenal's injury headache worsened after defender William Gallas was ruled out for the rest of the Premier League football season, but there was better news on Russian forward Andrei Arshavin.
A day after Arsenal revealed captain Cesc Fabregas's season was ended by a broken leg, the Premier League side's title tilt took a fresh hit after Gallas was sidelined with a calf injury that has troubled him since February.
The French international was one of five players injured in Wednesday's 2-2 Champions League quarter-final first-leg draw with Barcelona on what could prove to be a damaging night for the London club.
Arsenal have since learned that Fabregas broke his leg following a last-ditch tackle by Carles Puyol, while forward Arshavin limped off with a calf problem.
But manager Arsene Wenger maintains Arshavin will only be out for at least three weeks.
