The Sports Tribunal has suspended the boxing champion, Dawn Chalmers, until May because of a doping violation.
Chalmers tested positive after winning her weight division at the New Zealand Championships last October and was provisionally suspended in December.
She admitted the violation and the Tribunal accepted her evidence that she had consulted her doctor about a medical condition and he prescribed furosemide.
He also told her not to take it close to or around competition, advice Chalmers accepted without checking with Drug Free Sport New Zealand.
Furosemide is a diuretic which can be used to reduce weight, with performance-enhancing consequences for a boxer trying to fit in a certain weight division.
It's also banned because of its alleged use as a masking agent for other drugs.
