The Canadian men's ice hockey team has started its campaign for the Olympic gold medal on the right foot with an 8-nil win over Norway.

After a scoreless opening period, the gold medal favourites finally found the mark in the second twenty-minutes and went into the break with a 3-nil lead.

Canada put the match beyond doubt in the third and final period with five goals, while the team's goalie stopped 15 shots on goal from Norway to secure the clean sheet.

The men's ice hockey gold medal is the most coveted by the majority of Canadians, with ice-hockey being the host nation's national sport.
