The 4-time world rowing champion Mahe Drysdale has teamed up with lightweight sculler Peter Taylor to upstage some fellow internationals on the first morning of the National Rowing Championships on Lake Karapiro.
In the heats of the double sculls Drysdale and Taylor have beaten last year's New Zealand elite pairing of Nathan Cohen and Matthew Trott, a combination that finished 4th at last year's world championships.
Drysdale will also be involved in the heats of the single sculls this afternoon.
